    What's open and what's closed

    Old town and port restaurants stay open year-round. Many beach restaurants on the Arenal close November to March. Supermarkets, healthcare and pharmacies all run normal hours. Most beach amenities are closed.

    Atmosphere

    Locals reclaim the town. Tapas bars fill with Spanish customers. Sunday family lunches in the old town stretch for hours. The Arenal promenade becomes a peaceful walking and cycling route.
