Cala Ambolo

Cala Ambolo is the most remote and most dramatic beach in Jávea. Backed by 70-metre limestone cliffs and facing the imposing islet of Isla del Descubridor, it offers a pristine slice of coastline that feels untouched.

Note that official municipal access has been intermittently restricted in recent years due to rockfall risk – always check the latest local information before visiting and respect any closure signs.

When open, the beach is reached via a steep path from the road above. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water; the climb back up is demanding in summer heat.

The water is glass-clear and the dramatic underwater rocks make it a paradise for free divers and confident snorkellers. Currents can be strong on windy days.

Cala Ambolo has officially been closed at times due to falling rocks. If signs say closed, do not enter for your own safety – consider Cala Granadella or Portixol as an alternative.

Plenty of water, sun protection, water shoes and snorkel gear. There are no toilets, no shade and no restaurants.
