The seasonal madness of August melts away and a calm, sunny rhythm takes over. Most beach restaurants close but the old town stays lively. Markets, fiestas, walking trails and weekly events keep the calendar full. ## Winter weather Average winter day: 15–18°C, sunny. Average winter night: 8–12°C. Rainy days: 8–10 per month October–December, dropping to 4–6 by January–February. WHO has named the area one of Europe's healthiest climates. ## What's open and what's closed Old town and port restaurants stay open year-round. Many beach restaurants on the Arenal close November to March. Supermarkets, healthcare and pharmacies all run normal hours. Most beach amenities are closed. ## Atmosphere Locals reclaim the town. Tapas bars fill with Spanish customers. Sunday family lunches in the old town stretch for hours.
