Cala Portixol, also known as Cala La Barraca, sits at the foot of towering cliffs on Jávea's wild north-eastern coast. The little row of whitewashed fishing huts above the pebble shoreline has become a Costa Blanca icon and the bay regularly tops lists of the prettiest beaches in Spain.

Despite the fame the cove stays relatively quiet because access requires a winding drive and a long descending walk. The reward is glass-clear water, rocky inlets and panoramic sea views over the Mediterranean.

## How to reach Cala Portixol

Drive to the signposted car park above the cove (Mirador La Falzia direction) – the descent on foot takes 5–10 minutes down a steep ramp.

- Wear proper shoes for the slope
- No buses; taxi or car required
- Boat trips from Arenal stop offshore

## Swimming and snorkelling

The cove is sheltered and the seabed drops gently before deepening at the cliff edges, making it equally good for casual swimmers and snorkellers exploring the rocky sides.

## What to know before going

Facilities are minimal – two small restaurants in season, no lifeguards, limited shade. Bring water, an umbrella and reef-safe sunscreen.

## Best time to visit

The bay faces east so morning light is exceptional for photography. June and September give warm water with far fewer visitors than peak summer.
