| Jávea is world-famous for its year-round mild climate, quite unlike other part of Spain which have unrelenting summer heat. The World Health Organization recognizes the town as having some of the best weather in the world. It is a green valley, known locally as "the oasis (or jewel) of Spain". Travelling north or south in the summer, the countryside gets progressively more brown, devoid of the trees and vegetation that characterises the Jávea valley. The reason for this favourable micro-climate is that the town is situated on the point of a peninsular, with mountains and hills stretching inland from the coast and washed from both sides by cooling sea breezes.
The hills and mountains also protect Jávea from harsh winter weather. Its humidity is quite low when compared to the rest of Spain and Europe, meaning that even on the hottest summer days the heat is dry and more tolerable. Summers are considered to be not too hot in Jávea and winters are not too cold. There are more days of sunshine recorded in Jávea than in any other place in Spain, and it is the most eastern point of southern Spain so the sun rises here first. Many people suffering from arthritis, asthma and allergies have found the local weather has helped them, one of the reasons the WHO rates the area so highly. |
