The Spanish are a nation of passionate and often flamboyant people who love to celbrate well, with noise and a lot of colour. This is not a complete list - but it shows the culture and passion that still abounds in Spain, and particularly in places such as Jávea where local communities are strong.
January

- The Festival of the Sardine- an amusing fiesta when local people carry 'coffins' of the sardines through the streets, with some ribaldry.

- Las Fallas de Valencia - one of Spain's best known festivals where satirical papier-mâché figures are paraded through the streets. www.fallas.com
- 19 March - St Joseph's Day - public holiday, and the major fiesta in Valencia where a large number of huge effigies are burned in the strees, with lots of fireworks.

- Easter holidays
- Feria of Seville - a week-long party the Andalusian capital
- End of the basketball season
- Jávea's largest religious festival in honour of the Nazarene
May
- 1 May - May Day bank holiday
- 3 may - in Jávea, the Nazarene is taken back to His permanent place in a hermitage on a hill behind the town - torch-light procession
- International Festival of Short Films, documentaries and new producers, Madrid

- Football - end of La Liga, the Spanish football season

- 23 June - Eve of St John the Baptist's Day, Catalonia - celebrated with bonfires, fireworks and eating traditional 'Coca de Sant Joan' - a delicious pastry
- 24 June - public holiday for St John's Day, Catalonia, and the major fiesta in Jávea everybody (well, almost everybody) jumps over fires lit in the streets and the effigy is burnt - Los Fogueres de Sant Juan

- PopRock Festival, Castellon - one of the best in Spain, attracting bands from Spain, the UK and the US

- In Jávea, the 'Bous a la Mar' - bull running in the port when bulls and young men both land up in the water, part of the religious Mare de Déu de Loreto festival which takes place in and around the futuristic cathedral in the port
