ALICANTE AIRPORT Alicante International Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional de Alicante), originally named El Altet, is the main airport for the regions of Alicante and Murcia in Spain. It is located off the A7 near the city of Elx (Elche), 11 km southwest of the city of Alicante. Alicante is the major airport on Costa Blanca, so 80% traffic is international. A new Terminal is under construction to be finished in 2009. Alicante, the capital city of the province of Alicante, is one of the fastest growing cities in Spain. Its economy is based upon tourism, wine production, services and administration. It exports wine, olive oil, and fruit, and has light industries, including food-processing, leather, textiles, and pottery. The area's food specialty are turrones - honey and almond nougats. Amongst the most notable features of the city is its castle, the "Castillo de Santa Barbara", which sits high above the city upon a cliff.
VALENCIA AIRPORT Valencia Airport is the main airport for business travellers to Valencia and summer travellers to the Costa del Azahar. It is situated 9km west of Valencia, on the A3 highway which connects Valencia with Madrid, as well as being close to the A7, to Barcelona and into France. It is also well served by public transport. It is connected to Valencia by a regular bus line (MetroBus) which takes 45 minutes, while the shuttle service (Aerobus) to city centre takes only 20 minutes. The metro network (line 5) is currently being extended to Valencia’s airport. A new regional terminal, expanded car parking facilities and apron area are all currently under construction in time for the 2007 America's Cup.
